About the event

During Hispanic Heritage Month the Hispanic owned businesses within the Waterfront Market at Ruston will be hosting a Tamale Making Class.

In this hands-on class, you will explore the complexity of Tamale making, a popular dish throughout Hispanic culture, with many variations from savory to sweet wrapped in corn husks to palm leaves.

You will learn how to cook and assemble a half dozen Tamales that can be taken home and enjoyed with family and friends.

These corn tamales will be taught by Chef Perez, Owner of Taco Street with focus on the Northern Chihuahua region of Mexico. This class will also have assistance by some of the organizers mothers who have passed down their traditional Tamale making skills.

To start, you will prepare Tamales filled with corn masa and salsa rojo, a red sauce with pork meat. You will then be able to take your tamales home with instruction on how to cook and enjoy them on your own.

Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a Tamale plate served with rice and beans after the class is complete.

Alcohol can be purchased on site, during the class.

Tickets for this class can be purchased through Eventbrite beginning Tuesday, August 9th. Link will be provided at that time.
